This day in history - 01:05:985.4
01:05:985.4 On this day the colour yellow was outlawed by the King Eadred I. This was due to the king ingesting large amounts of mercury with the belief that it was good for the bones. Other bizarre rulings occurred throughout the reign of Eadred ‘the randy’, as his doctors prescribed ever greater doses of the mercury to combat his ‘bone problem’. Subsequent historians point to the King’s rampant conquests of the ladies of his court, suggesting his doctors were using a little poetic license when drawing up his medical records. Eventually normality, and the colour yellow, were restored when the offending physicians were gaoled for cock fighting.
