Wagons Roll

Have you ever wondered about inspiration and where it comes from? As I write this blog entry, I’m sitting in my lounge listening to a recording of Classic Fm’s ‘Night at the Movies’ on my Sky box. It’s Western Night! I’m sipping a glass of chilled white sauvignon blanc and listening to Alfred Newman’s score of ‘How The West Was Won’. Oh, and it’s almost one o’clock in the morning… did I forget to say that?

Boom! Inspiration strikes.

White lightening across my frontal lobe. (Yes I know some doctor will tell me that that’s not where inspiration happens but I like to think of it like that). Unfortunately it will all have to wait. Firstly, I have to go to bed, it’s been a long day, a very long day. Secondly, the scene that has just projected itself across the back of my skull wont occur for several books, so you’ll just have to tag along and see what happens.

But there you go, that was it. You were present at the moment of creation. One or more chapters (maybe) were conjured up just now in my cerebral light-show. With images of the Wild West and John Wayne riding off into the sunset, a moment in time has been forged. All I need to do is work out how to include a ——— and a ——— with a ——— and the scene will write itself. (Just to keep you guessing).

Oh wait! The soundtrack of ‘The Magnificent Seven’ just came on…

So, dear reader, what’s your favourite cinematic collaboration between action and music, what rekindles the flames of nostalgia and tickles the synaptic nerves in your brain?
