This day in history - 20:03:1211.4

20:03:1211.4 On this day the artist Vance Van Gabour added a new saying to the Gurden lexicon.  While making a round of marmalade sandwiches after a particularly poor days painting, he was distracted by the thought that no one would want to buy a painting of moss and that a picture of sunflowers would be much more commercial.  Lost in his thoughts about colour and the expense of paint, he attempted to take a bite his sandwich without putting down his knife first.  His resulting injury lead to the phrase, ‘don’t cut off your nose to spite your face,’ and became a standard saying when referring to poor marmalade.  Although some scholars argue that the real quote is closer to, ‘Question: how does he smell? Answer: Awful.’
