23:02:1212.4 On this day the famous picture, Madam with hat and odd smile was stolen from the famed gallery Slatsform. No one ever found out who stole the painting or how it had been purloined, but the picture was supposedly found intact three years later in a parcel at the main post office. Rumours still abound that the original picture was destroyed mere minutes after the robbery, with a series of fakes produced to sell to unscrupulous art dealers. It is thought there are now up to ninety-seven such forgeries in play. What is known for sure is that the world famous art forger Wolfgang Chaudron dropped dead three years after the theft from a rare case of cadmium poisoning with just a hint of vermillion.
